The reintroduction of the CR-V in India is part of Honda’s broader strategy to expand its SUV lineup in the country, which includes plans to launch three new models by 2026.

Anuj Guglani, CEO, World Auto Forum, reflects on the CR-V's legacy and Honda’s future prospects in India:

"The first Honda CR-V, launched alongside the Accord in July 2003, was a CBU import. While its sales were limited, it sparked significant excitement and aspiration among Indian buyers. Even the subsequent CR-V models offered a good level of excitement and saw modest success. For Honda, the key to a successful re-entry lies in offering the right combination of features, pricing, and value. The model must be the latest and should neither be nor appear dated — a lesson especially relevant from the Honda Elevate experience."

He further emphasizes the broader strategic perspective for global automotive brands:

"Global car company headquarters must support their local subsidiaries—especially in markets like India—by ensuring a steady flow of the right products, at the right price, right time, and with the right trim levels and strong value proposition. Equally important is a sustainable business plan for dealer partners. Without fulfilling these crucial elements, global brands should reconsider entering complex and highly competitive markets like India."
